International calling

Calling Bangladesh from another country

• The country code for Bangladesh is 880.  

• Bangladesh city codes and cell phone codes are given below.  

• Inward dialing 

  To call a Bangladesh T&T phone from outside Bangladesh: 

  • Dial the country code 880, then the city code without the leading zero, then the telephone number.  

  • Example - dial 880-2-981100 to call Dhaka number 9811000.

  To call  a Bangladesh cell phone from outside Bangladesh:

  • Dial the country code 880, then the cell phone code without the leading zero, then the cell phone number.  

  • Example - dial 880-18-3431000 to call cell phone number 018-3431000.

Calling another country from Bangladesh

• It is not possible to access  international information (directory assistance) from within Bangladesh.  If you need international directory assistance, check the Internet telephone directories:

• International calls are possible only from ISD-enabled cell phones and T&T  lines. 

• Outward dialing:

  From a T&T phone:

  • Dial 00, then country code, then the city code, then the number)

  • Example - 00-1-303-number to dial Denver (area code 303) USA (country code 1)

  From a cell phone:

  • Press the key for international dialing (on my cell phone this is a +), then the country code, then city code, then the number.

  • Example - +1-303-number to dial Denver (area code 303) USA (country code 1)

Nationwide calling

• For calls between city codes within Bangladesh:

  From T&T phones and cell phones:

  • Dial the city code (including the leading zero), then the number

  • Example - 02-9881000 to get the  Dhaka number 9881000 from outside the city.

Preventing unauthorized calls from your T&T phone

To disable outgoing calling:

Press * 3 4 * (4 digit passcode of your choice) * (2 digit blocking code) #

REMEMBER YOUR PASSCODE! At the end of this sequence you will hear a busy tone.  

The blocking codes are:

• 01 to block ALL outgoing calls

• 02 to stop nationwide/international calls

• 03 to stop nationwide calls only

• 04 to stop international calls only

• 05 to stop local calls only

To re-enable outgoing calling:

Press * 3 4 * (4 digit passcode entered earlier) #

The busy tone will clear.

Changes to Dhaka 8xxxxx as of 30 Oct 99

The Bangladesh Telegraph & Telephone Board has announced the conversion of digital telephone numbers within Dhaka city from six digits starting with "8" to seven digits, effective 11:55pm Friday 29 Oct 1999.

The conversion was as follows:
