Article From News From Bangladesh archives Arsenic contamination detected in 597 tubewells - 2 Mar 03UNB, Chapainawabganj - Arsenic beyond permissible limit has been detected in 597 tubewells in the pourashava area here recently. Public Health Engineering Department sources said water of 1738 tubewells were examined in the area under Arsenic Mitigation Water Supply Project and it was detected in 597 tubewells. Besides, arsenic contamination has been detected in the waters of two deep tubewells of the water supply system of the pourashava. Locals said these tubewells have been sealed off without any alternative arrangement of supply of pure water in the area. The sources said some 38 arsenic related disease affected people have been identified in the area. (UNB)
