Call to sink tubewells in arsenic-hit areas

Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan today directed the concerned officials to immediately sink and re- sink tube-wells in arsenic-affected areas after fixing priority.

"The present government is firmly committed to supplying everyone with safe drinking water as soon as possible," he said while presiding over a review meeting of the Public Health Engineering Department at LGRD Ministry.

The meeting discussed, in detail, water supply, sewerage and arsenic mitigation activities of the department.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Ziaul Haq Zia, Deputy Minister of the ministry Advocate Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Local Government Secretary AYBI Siddiqui, Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering Department M Ichhak Ali and concerned officials were present at the meeting. (BSS)
