Article From News From Bangladesh archives Arsenic contamination takes serious turn in NabinagarBRAHMANBARIA, Mar 24 : Arsenic contamination has taken a serious turn in Nabinagar upazila of the district in recent times, triggering panic among the people, reports BSS. About 200 arsenic contaminated patients have been identified all over the upazila. There are about 35,000 tube-wells for five lakh people in the upazila having 20 unions. A survey conducted under the leadership of Dr. SM Imirul Anwar, directed by UNICEF, revealed that a total of 26,181 tube-wells out of 31,860 are contaminated by arsenic in the upazila. People are suffering from arsenic contamination by drinking this poisonous water here but local authorities are not taking any step to solve the problem, elite of the locality said.( BSS)
